Magical Santorini

Its photogenic small streets colored by flowers, white walls and blue windows with a breath-taking view over the Aegean sea have been on the cover of many magazines worldwide. About 25000 years ago the island was double as big and round, but during the volcanic period half of the island collapsed into the sea leaving only half of it exposed. This is why some refer to Santorini when they refer to the ‘Lost Atlantis’.

Santorini is undoubtfully the most famous of the Greek islands. It is the southernmost island of the islands-group ‘The Cyclades’ and is situated about 200 Km (124 miles) north of Crete. Santorini possesses an active volcano, to which it owes its form and, in some sense, it’s fame as well, as the outburst during the 17th century that lasted about 2 months and gave birth to this magical island as we see it today.

Fira

The capital of Fira is situated about 400m above sea-level built on volcanic rocks. Fira can be reached on foot, by car or by using the cable-car.

The old town of Fira and its Archaeological museum (Lignos) with findings from the Hellenistic and Roman periods is built in a cave will guide you through local folklore and way of life on the island and includes a traditional winery and historical, well preserved artefacts.

Oia

Oia is considered the second ‘big town’ on the island of Santorini and is situated at the northernmost point of the half-moon shaped island. Both towns offer plenty of shops, restaurants, picturesque walks and magnificent sunsets but watching the sunset in Oia is a 'once in a lifetime experience' that you would not want to miss!
